The cellar is filling up with new fruit

The middle of October for all intents, hard to believe the year has gone so fast. The cellar is filling up with new fruit, the smells changing almost daily from the fresh sweet scent of strawberries, blueberries, and honey to the yeasty qualities of fermenting must, mingled with coffee, laughter and the heat from cooking spirits on the still.

I love this time of year. It reminds me, always, of the ritual of the lives we lead, our daily practice to live, love and survive in the lives we have chosen, and celebrate in the things we “do”. Soon, like tomorrow, we will start with cider, the last of the fall fruit harvest, and a sure sign that winter is just around the corner, the reminder that I have yet to clean up the yard of half-finished summer projects. But what to do about? Stand and stare at them maybe, I don’t really think they will get done! Thank the Goddess for sure, for good friends who helped split wood for winter warmth, absolutely! Great friends, good mead, sprits, friends and family we love, customers we adore, ahhhh, its fall here at White Winter Winery and we will soon be immersed in our name sake season!
